In a way to describe how in love he is with Nancy, he would go to the ends of the Earth for her. Nancy loves Steve Harrington. He has his moments (a la Carol and Tommy’s doing) where he’s been an asshole, but God, it was never to her. He loves her so much and she can see it whenever she looks into those damn brown eyes of his. She can get lost in those so easily. A smile spread even farther across her face as she laughed, “my mom, Karen Wheeler, not getting worried about me sleeping over at your house? It’s practically unheard of. It’s almost like you haven’t met her,” she teased and brought her hand down from his cheek to rest her fingers in his. 

In other words, Steve loves Nancy Wheeler. She’s the literal queen to his king and by god, he’s never going to let her go. He was so kind towards her and to anyone else, he’d kill them. There’s something in her that he could see and it’s not hate, it’s not his parents yelling at him, it’s not his mother force feeding him so he’d have some meat on his bones, it’s love and he’s so in love with her that he’d be willing to tell her all of his secrets, even the ones he had hid for the longest time. ❝ Do I want to? I mean, if I’m going to be around my future wife, I might as well meet her family, right? ❞ He smiles wide at the thought of them getting married and living together - but he’s worried about the different schools they’d be going to after high school.

❝ Nancy, ❞ He lets out as he slowly pulls away from the other girl, a light smile on his face. ❝ Hi, you. ❞ His voice is kind of short and breathy, but he still manages to say more than two words. ❝ Don’t go, stay. Please? ❞

Nancy gives him a look that’s pure puppy love. “Hi,” she whispered back, her own voice quiet and said through soft breaths. Her teeth drag over her lower lip as she truly contemplated the idea of facing her mother’s wrath should she comes home late. “Steve… My mom– she’ll get worried.”

Steve couldn’t look at her, after pulling away from that kiss - he shouldn’t have. Things weren’t right between the two and he wasn’t going to be that guy to hurt someone like Jonathan. It had seemed like Nancy and Jonathan were utterly perfect for each other and he didn’t wanna ruin that by kissing her again. He had felt something but it wasn’t love, it was guilt because he had did something so wrong, something that he couldn’t forgive himself for. A stammer as he barely glances at her, Steve fiddles with his finger, wondering if things were right but they weren’t. A sigh leaving his lips, his mouth agape as he tries to make things better but he doesn’t.

The taller boy had seen Nancy in a new light and god, he still put her on that pedestal, it hurt but it was worth it to see her smile with someone else that wasn’t him, that wasn’t itching for a fight, that wasn’t always trying to impress people with how rich he was – he always figured that Nancy deserved someone better than him and she’s got it, but he had to ruin it by kissing her square on the lips, messing things up. He knew that he was going to go off to college or law school and find someone else that found him worth something and deep down, he knew that they were destined to be together.

❝ You want me to stay? AFTER all this time, after me kissing you – I can’t do this, Nancy. ❞

Her nose scrunched a little as she smiled brightly. She glanced away from Steve for a brief moment, then gave him a look. “Sure. Maybe if I was a middle school girl, Steve, then I’d have eyes on Dustin, but I’m an adult.”

Steve looked at Nancy before laughing a bit, her eyes returning to look at him. There was something that he liked about their whole thing, but he did like how nice she looked and there was really no doubt about it. ❝ Not gonna lie, I’m proud of him. He looks like he’s ready for high school. ❞

Steve wasn’t upset, he was just – he was trying to hope for the best and he wanted things to work out, but all he ever saw were two ghosts in front of him. Though, he wasn’t reclusive, he never was. King Steve was going to remain the King of Hawkins and a shoddy relationship wasn’t going to harm him. ❝ Nance. ❞ Something was clear of that, but god, there was something in his voice that hurt and he just wanted to be happy and he wanted to make everything right again, but he knew that it was too late. ❝ I – You seem happy. I’m happy for you and Jonathan. I mean, I knew that you guys were.. meant to be. ❞

Steve was absolutely stunned by this girl – however, she had changed his life drastically and god, he was in love with the Wheeler daughter. ❝ I love you too, Nancy Wheeler. ❞ He muses as he feels her nose brush against his, a sigh leaving his lips as he had heard her mention making the people at her school jealous. ❝ Well, that is the plan. Unless you wanted me to Ferris Bueller your school and call the Dean, ❞ He shrugs his shoulders as a wide smile forms.

Nancy let out a laugh at the mention of him calling her school. She didn’t doubt that for a second. If she needed him to, Steve would call in an instant. She brought her voice back down so her parents wouldn’t get suspicious and think she was talking to herself, let alone a boy, in her room. “You’re gonna marry me someday, Steve Harrington,” she said with a soft smile.

Steve, if anything, liked being at the Wheeler’s home. There was a sudden comfort and love that he had never really gotten and to be in her room more than once - it had felt nice, to be honest. Though, he was cautious considering that her parents were watching her like a hawk. ❝ Hmm – Am I? ❞ He teases her as a wicked smile is plastered on his face, his hand softly touching her arm.

❝ When I’m with you, I know I’m not, ❞ Steve answers her quite honestly, though whenever he was with his friends, he always felt somewhat alone and he hated it. Scrunching his nose as she pinched it, he returned the smile, knowing that she was scared of going off to college – but he was always going to visit. ❝ And I’ll visit you when I have days off work. ❞ He keeps that promise, a goofy grin forming as he nodded his head in reply.

“I love you,” she said and brushed her nose against his. He always made her feel ever so slightly less anxious about the future and she couldn’t not be thankful for that. Nancy nodded her head at the mention of visits, “I’d like that. We’ll make all the people at my school jealous,” she told him with a big grin.
